Gear Position Sensor – Porsche 911 PDK
Gear Position Sensor – Porsche 911 PDK

The gear position sensor (often referred to as shift fork position sensor) is one of the most common issues with Porsche PDK transmissions. The sensor’s function is to provide the control unit with precise real-time positioning data of all four shift rods. The gearbox control unit continuously interfaces with the sensor pack to verify the accuracy of each gear shift.

If the sensor fails or malfunctions, the control unit loses this critical feedback and defaults to the current gear without executing further shifts. The following symptoms may appear:

  • Vehicle enters limp mode or becomes undrivable
  • Dashboard displays “Gearbox fault”
  • Error codes: 1731, 1732, 1733, 1734 or 1735
  • Diagnostic software reports “Shift rod N displacement sensor” failure

Many sources on the internet sell sensors of Chinese production, which unfortunately often prove to be prone to failure or have a short lifespan. The sensor we offer originates from an international development project and includes components from various countries, including Germany. To ensure better compatibility and precise sensor readings, the sensor is offered in different versions, either for Boxster / Cayman or 911. Other manufacturers use the same sensor for all models, even though the transmissions differ slightly, which can cause problems with calibration and measurements. Another special feature of the sensor we offer is that the cables are pre-assembled with pins and can be directly inserted into the round connector. Soldering wires or using crimp connectors (as with other sensors) is not necessary.

Important: The installation of the sensor is quite challenging and requires solid knowledge or skills. Errors during installation can lead to malfunctions in the PDK transmission. Therefore, installation should only be carried out by qualified workshop personnel with access to compatible diagnostic software (e.g., PIWIS). After purchase, we provide comprehensive information on how to pin the sensor into the round connector and install it in the transmission. However, we cannot provide assistance with these tasks; installation is at your own risk and responsibility. This sensor is suitable for 911 models only!

Pinion Shaft Bearing – Porsche 911 Boxster Cayman Panamera PDK
Pinion Shaft Bearing – Porsche 911 Boxster Cayman Panamera PDK

This is a brand-new, original INA needle roller bearing for the pinion shaft in Porsche’s PDK transmission, supplied by the same manufacturer as the factory part. During transmission disassembly, this bearing can easily fall, often breaking the plastic cage, making it a commonly needed replacement for transmission repairs and overhauls.
